Welcome to North Carolina Friends of Midwives, the voice of out-of-hospital birthing families since 1997.

2015 Legislative Update:

Thanks to all who have called and emailed your Senators to ask for support for S542 & S543. The update on ncleg.net shows these are our sponsors and co-sponsors: Ronald J. Rabin (Primary); Norman W. Sanderson (Primary); Bill Cook; Fletcher L. Hartsell, Jr.; Joyce Krawiec; Tom McInnis; (Co-Sponsors). The bills passed the first reading and have been sent to the Rules and Operations Committee for sorting and then we expect them to move on. We are keeping close watch and will update you with progress and any further action. Same tasks still apply: update your NCFOM membership at www.ncfom.org, update your voter registration, participate in the upcoming local events (announcement coming soon!). #MidwiferyMatters! #freedomtobirth Keep up the good work!

The North Carolina Friends of Midwives invites you to our annual Walk for Midwives fundraiser on Sunday, May 3, 2015. Walks will be held in Charlotte, Asheville and Garner and we are expecting to host hundreds of families all across our great State of North Carolina.

These events celebrate the midwives who serve our families, the work NCFOM does to promote midwifery, and the International Day of the Midwife (5/5) and its' theme, "Midwives: for a better tomorrow." This fundraiser fuels the work of NCFOM to improve access to care in out of hospital births by licensing Certified Professional Midwives in NC.

Legislative Mission Statement

North Carolina Friends of Midwives recognize a woman’s right to choose the setting and care provider for birth, the validity and safety of a planned home birth attended by a trained midwife, the need to assure that the standards of care are maintained and that care providers are held accountable for their actions.

North Carolina Friends of Midwives shall seek the introduction and passage of legislation to license Certified Professional Midwives to address these issues, shall continue to be present to prevent legislation to the contrary, and shall insist on the correction of the statutory and regulatory deficiencies.
